"Habits should be formed that will keep the weight down automatically, instead of relying upon intermittent attempts that are more than likely to fail."

HOW TO LIVE: RULES FOR HEALTHFUL LIVING BASED ON MODERN SCIENCE
by IRVING FISHER and EUGENE LYMAN FISK, 1915

Yeah, not much new under the sun (and we keep ignoring it).

There are some doozies in that book though, like:
For society as a whole, a thoroughgoing eugenic program must include:

(1) The prevention of reproduction by the markedly unfit, such as the feeble-minded, by sterilization of the most unfit and by segregating the remainder in public institutions.

(2) The enactment of wise marriage laws.

(3) The development of an enlightened sentiment against improper marriages and the putting at the disposal of individuals contemplating marriage the data accumulated and principles worked out by eugenic students.

The Eugenics Record Office of Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, N. Y., is now engaged in collecting such material.
Hmmm. Come to think of it, I guess not a whole lot has changed at cold spring harbor. :-)

I think Hitler had similar views! Breeding only from the best etc!

Good eating is a habit. 11 months into a "completely free processed sugar" diet, and I know this. My weight has been stable within 2 pounds since July. My new year resolution from Jan is now a lifetime habit. No more processed sugar for me thank you. It's tough at the moment, the smell of chocolate pervades the staff room at the primary school where I work - grateful thank yous from parents etc. - an odour I'd never actually have noticed before I became completely sugar free!

I just think if I had some I'd be bouncing off the ceiling after 11 months of none at all. I think I'd feel better staying off...and so would my hips. 27 pounds lost can't be wrong can it?

Carole.
