I taught an afternoon class today --three hour deal. HALF my students brought snacks to eat during class.
HALF.
A quarter of them actually were so unconscious of the fact they were eating during class time that they asked me a question with a full mouth.
These were all people over thirty, mind you, not teenagers.
I don't want to be a jerk, but if you're that unconscious of what you're doing, how good does that muffin really taste? You're eating it without even enjoying it. If you ate lunch, you don't NEED the food. So, you're eating for neither pleasure, nor need, nor distraction. (At least, if you're paying attention in class enough to be able to ask a pertinent question, your mind is engaged).
I swear, as a culture we're really screwed up about food.

Mindless eating. Just enough mindfulness to have something handy to eat.
