My daughter movd out, and left me with my oak book case (finally). I was putting my books back on the shelf when I came across Christiaan Barnard's "50 Ways to Healthy Heart". I read the "nutrition" recommendations sitting in the sauna today.

His first way to a healthy heart? Forget about diets.

His first 3 steps:
1. Determine if you need to lose weight.
2. Determine what it is that is making you overweight.
3. Trying to lose weight without exercise is useless.

Another suggestion: Don't turn diets into a cult. (Which reminded me of Reinhard's interview w/ Jimmy Moore. Jimmy was splendid, but the low carb zombies were horrified to think that a person could eat some sweets on S days and not gain all the weight back that weekend.)

Hie three weight reduction rules are:

1. Deny yourself nothing.

2. Use a nutritional plan that will help you attain your ideal weight, and remain there.

3. Eat less. (or no snacks, seconds, or sweets...)

I am working my way through thr book again.

He suggests that 90 minute of "sport" a week is plenty of exercise. Park in the back of the lot, and walk to the store (if it is safe). (He didn't get introduced to the Shovel Glove.)

Late in the book I did like his, "Don't shop when you're hungry..." (Been there, done that!)

And one I liked: Eat with passion!

The best thing my kids did for me was getting me Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I'm not a pro, but it opened a whole new world of flavors for me. I am finding that Thai and Vietnamese foods are spectacular.

This book is a good read, I suggest, if you can find it at the library, read it.

Thank you for posting. I agree with the first three steps. I know what foods and eating habits have contributing to my weight gain on and off of No S, and I know that a lack of exercise for about 2-3 years also contributed to my weight gain.
