This comes from one of yoga's five yamas, or ethical precepts: http://www.yogajournal.com/article/yoga ... happiness/
It seems to have to do with what we are doing here.
One thing it brings to mind is the advertisement, omnipresence, colours, crunch, taste engineering, ease and cheapness of modern processed 'food'.Brahmacharya... literally means ‘walking in the way of God'... It’s about preventing the dissipation of one’s energy through the misuse of the senses... when you practice brahmacharya, you are not letting the senses rule your behavior; you are not urge driven.”
Anything that causes turbulence in the mind and stirs the emotions might be seen as a violation of brahmacharya: overstimulating foods, loud music, violent movies, and yes, inappropriate sexual behavior. “Whatever disturbs the mind and body disturbs the spiritual life—it’s all one energy... Brahmacharya asks you to consider how you spend it. Look at energy like money in the bank: If you have $100, you don’t want to spend it all right away so that you have nothing left. Become a good energy manager.
And other spiritual traditions have also espoused moderation.
In another context, we're all familiar with temperance.
I'm trying to learn temperance when it comes to food.
To husband my energy, in yogic terms.
