Up and Downs

Well I have been sub 180, according to my scale, for a week plus. On May 21, in the AM I was 179. On May 28 I was 177. So, I am trending in the right direction.

It does me make wonder, however, if plateaus are as bad as we think they are. I was in the low 180s for sometime. I am not a physiologist, but I think that our bodies plateau to stabilize, to get ready for more weight loss? A thought I have had. So, instead of one linear line of losing, our bodies (some of ours) stair case down.

Have a good weekend.

I sure hear people describe exactly your experience. I think there's a lot to be said for this idea. It breaks with 'calories in-calories out' but perhaps it's really more reflective of the changeability of our metabolism from month to month, or season to season.

I think that the plateaus are times the body keeps in homeostasis with water weight even while it might be losing fat until it accepts the new energy intake and output. Then it lets go of the water. I dunno.

I know that the author of one of the books on setpoint asserted that there is an advantage to losing in stages. It certainly seems that there is a lot of failure to make weight loss linear.

I have massive plateaus so I can relate! I started to like them because they teach me to keep on going and be kind to myself and not to make weight-loss my goal but to be healthy and follow NoS.

As for the drop - Good for you!
