The Slippery Slope...

Post by kccc » Fri Dec 07, 2007 4:32 pm

I need to start this with a brag... yesterday, I was helping to organize an afternoon reception, and putting out food. I am pleased to say I did NOT have any, because these were most definitely snacks. (I did have to keep saying "no snacks, no snacks, no snacks" to myself like a mantra... and I did have a cup of hot apple cider, to keep me from feeling TOO deprived.)

But as I looked at the reception, I realized how hard it would have been to stay in control if I'd broken down and had "just a little."

Veggie Tray... well, you can't argue with that, those are good for me! Just a few, and that's all I'll have. Really.

Right next to it.. cheese and olives. Not really in the same category as veggies, but still "real food" - and some of my personal favorites. I love olives so much, and just a little cheese to go with....

Then crackers with hummus or olive tapenade. How bad can a cracker be?

Next chips and homemade bean dip... oh, my...well...

And by then, the sweets at the end don't seem like that much more...

I've been down that road, and know it all too well. Not setting the first toe on it (even though veggies are good for you, they're STILL SNACKS) is the best bet.

Well, dear KCCC, I too have taken a slide down that slippery slope a many a time! It's amazing how we can rationalize overeating to ourselves - and believe it! Bravo to you for, first of all, knowing yourself and your shortcomings, and second remaining so strong! And now you have earned bragging rights!!!

Congratulations!

Depending on the time the reception was, I might have partaken and called it lunch or dinner.
