I would also allow sweets in single servings when away from home - like a special dessert at a restaurant or when dining at the home of friends. Or as finallyfull suggests, the occasional ice cream cone. Limiting as much as you plan to do would be too restrictive for me. I would definitely feel depr...

Re: 5:2 diet (not really a NoS question)
basically you eat whatever you like for 5 days, and instead of two S days, you actually fast for two days (500 calories for women). My problem is overeating, so eating whatever I like for 5 days didn't work. The premise is that you'll eat 'normally' for 5 days and then the calorie deficit on 2 days...

There is a thread here on intermittent fasting and I think the 5:2 plan is discussed some in there. I followed it for a while. I found eating 500 calories on the fasting days to be too much trouble, so with the exception of calorie free liquids, I fasted from dinner one night until dinner the next n...

I've wondered if some of my weight gain was partly due to living near a chocolate factory. Sometimes I would just be smelling chocolate all day, whatever I was doing. I didn't actually eat much chocolate, but I was constantly being reminded of food. I used to live near a Burger King, Arby's and Lon...

Technically if you virtual plate and there's room on the plate for the apple, that's fine as long as you eat it at mealtime. I think it's fine even in addition to a full plate. I add fruit to green salads. A current favorite is spinach or romaine with strawberries and avocado. Later in the summer I'...

Welcome! This is simple (easy to understand), but it isn't easy (wiithout effort). It is sustainable, but I can guarantee you that at some point it will be difficult - maybe only for a short period of time, maybe for a longer time. You will have good days, you will have bad days and you will have do...

I live alone and make desserts weekly. Most recipes can be cut at least in half and some reduced by even more. I have some smaller baking dishes and smaller dishes and pie pans can be purchased through Wilton. If you go to http://tasteofhome.com and search "cooking for two" you'll get over 2500 resu...

I think all of the U.S. is obesogenic. There are very few times or places where eating isn't allowed, if not encouraged. It's not only junk food. Over the last 40 years or so our portions have increased in size and along with that the number of calories consumed daily. If you eat out it's easy to co...

Lol, I think I've misspelled oolala's name 100 times but the main thing is that when I write her name - in whichever form - or read her thread I am immediately placed on French riviera with that amazing holiday feeling, sun, and great food habits. When I try to spell her name using my tablet, it au...

I found this just now - Refrigerator Iced Tea http://www.theyummylife.com/Cinnamon_and_Spice_Refrigerator_Iced_Tea I like the idea of not having to boil water in the heat of the summer months. (My little house heats up so easily in the summer, and so do I.) I've made tea like that for years. Anothe...

I'd be curious about the content of the meals. Is it as vegetable-heavy as the reputation? What about the salt taste? I think Chinese food in the states tastes quite salty. Is it true in the homeland? I've read that once the Chinese had enough food to eat (and before they had their own obesity epid...

Also this is a reason I don't bake bread for our everyday use. A store bought loaf lasts weeks, homemade loaf, hours. I bake my own bread, but only find it really tempting fresh from the oven and warm. For this reason I time the bread baking so that it's finished 20-30 minutes before a meal. Once i...

People who live in countries where serving meals in courses or in several small plates or bowls don"t consume more food than those of us who use one plate. In fact, partly due to the size of our plates, we often consume more food. Do what works where you are. As the old saying goes, "When in Rome, d...

Also curious to know more about the S Day mods. I am now about 11 weeks in, and haven't lost any weight. My S days are CRAZY and I usually suffer on Monday badly. I think I need to find a better balance on S days so that I ease into the week a little better. Michael Pollan says you can eat a...

I never got into the S Days gone wild because I don't like that feeling of being out of control. When I read about people who literally stayed up until midnight on Friday nights just to be able to eat something S at 12:01, it somehow made me sad. :( I always thought it was telling how many people p...
