Product or system....it doesn't matter - it is a good idea! nice work and a good name! Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: Reinhard Engels To: Sent: 08 July 2004 20:11 Subject: Re: [everydaysystems] Lets's talk I'm not sure this counts as a system, it's more of a product, nor is it the most inspiring thing in the world, but it is useful (and it has a funny name). The problem: terrible posture sitting in front of the computer all day. I'd hunch over something dreadful. People would comment. It was that bad. The solution: I took an old radio (or TV?) antenna and attached it with a C-clamp to my desk, so that the antenna is pointing at my chest at about a 45 degree angle. When I lean forward, I feel the antenna and know to sit back. Because the antenna telescopes, I can adjust it precisely and won't impale myself. It works great. When I moved offices and neglected to put it up for a while, people started commenting again. The name: it looks a little like a torture device (a coworker advised me to remove the plastic cap off the antenna and hone the tip to a sharp point for maximum negative reinforcement), so I thought I'd make joking reference to this in the name (Torquemada was the infamous head of the spanish inquisition). Every product of a certain type needs an arbitrary number thrown in, and 2000 is the queen of arbitrary product numbers. I was going to call it "Adjustable Posture *Guide*," but "guide" sounded too pleasant. Guard is more in the spirit of the thing. I'll post a picture when I get a chance.
