Did you know today is National Splurge Day?!

Post by mimi » Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:36 am

Thursday, June 18 is National Splurge Day I just noticed on the early morning news. Okay - so what will you splurge on today? (AH, AH, AH! Not an invitation to splurge on food! )

I think I will splurge on extra kisses and hugs for my little grandchildren while I am with them today! That makes me HAPPY too!

What will you do to S - P - L - U - R - G - E today?

I have just moved into a nice new office. And I'm going to splurge on new office supplies - stapler, scissors, that kind of thing.

Because it's the end-of-the-year, there's not money to buy supplies yet. I could have brought my old stuff from my old office - but they were inherited supplies and to be honest, they were serviceable, but not very nice. (Purple stapler, the wrong shape for my hand, that kind of thing.)

I decided to eave them for the new person taking my office, and get things I liked, even if I spent my own funds on them. Won't be a lot, and I will enjoy having the kinds of tools I like to use. It's my office-warming present to myself.

Ooh, I love getting new office supplies! Call me crazy, but I was the kid who was actually excited for school to start (and as a grad student, still am) because I got to buy new notebooks and pens and everything.

I don't have any money to splurge, and I don't want to splurge on food ... I think I will splurge by giving myself some extra time to curl up and read the book I've been reading lately. Or extra crafting time! I've been crocheting really colorful granny squares for a friend's baby blanket.

In light of National Splurge Day, here's a ring that some of you might want to *splurge* on - there's been so much talk of rings around the boards lately! :D

I'm not sure of the significance of Mt. St. Helens (stones from that area, maybe?), but the three green stones could represent eating three meals a day with no snacks, sweets, or seconds and staying GREEN!

The sale price is pretty good too!

Honestly, I think one of the reasons our economy is in the toilet and we aren't eating very well is that we have been sold the idea that EVERY DAY is National Splurge Day. We need National Abstain and Contemplate Day.

You're right.

But (going into justification mode) I'd decided on my splurge in advance... and it's a little one (I too always loved new school supplies). /justification

I will be careful to get ONLY things I will genuinely use. :)

The thing that has actually given me the most enjoyment of late is harvesting the first veggies from my garden. This year is my first real foray into gardening, and I'm enjoying it so much!

Oh, I didn't mean to pick on your office supplies! I think that's a MINDFUL "splurge." Along with the kisses and the reading time and so forth.

Splurge Day?!?!? Yea, that's what happened to my day today. Red after a streak of 48. Hmmm... sounds like a good excuse to me, I needed one. Thanks! Now back to the green highway.
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me
