starting!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Starting Day one. This system makes a lot of sense to me, let's see if I can do it.

Thanks everyone! What nice encouragement from this forum! So Day Two - Success! Nothing too outstanding . . . it just feels like eating regularly, I barely thought about food (unlike any other diet I have been on). It's a pleasure to feel relaxed, but healthy. So, I am aiming for a full 21 days . . I am not weighing myself until at least the end of the week, because I like the idea of focusing on habits, not numbers.

I know. . .isn't it great that two off days are coming. Day four was a success, also. So far, I am way happier with the NO-s diet than anything I have ever done with my eating. This is why:
1. It feels so normal! I don't need to worry about what I am eating or when. It is interesting for me to notice how often I would grab a snack if I wasn't doing this, and it's no wonder I weight more than I want to! However, because I am eating satisfying meals, I don't have a hard time resisting the snacks.
2. I have not obsessed at all.
3. because it is so easy to follow, I feel successful.
4. I have slept great and felt really good exercising.
5. I find myself thinking things like "wow, I feel so good I would do this even if I didn't lose weight"
5. However, I am losing weight - I just jumped on the scale (I know I wasn't going to) and I have lost 3 pounds, which is really just the low end of my range.
I don't have a lot of weight to lose - ten pounds would put me at a really good weight, and I have well established good exercise habits HOWEVER I have a long history of failed dieting and bad body image, so it is very important to me that I work on those issues. I want to be a good role model for my beautiful little girl, and I don't want to be held back by eating and body image issues! Thanks everyone for the support. Looking forward to 17 more days to make it to the 21 day mark!

If that isn't the best motivation! I love your bullet points, they are amazing and inspiring. I know exactly what you mean with the body image issues and I can report that at least for me NoS has done wonders for it.

Brilliant, that you got right back on that wagon! The beauty of NoS is that it let's you recover 3 plates a day but it took me a lot longer than you to beat the What The Hell Effect :) Well done!
