I put 2 and 2 together the other night and figured it out.
We bought a set of 1-pound neoprene wrist weights at Academy (a sporting goods chain) a few months ago for about $6, and my wife uses them sometimes when walking or cardio. We also bought her a 4-pound hammer to do SG the other day, and she thought it was heavier at the store than it really was, but she also didn't want to move up to an 8 pounder yet because she has an old rotator cuff injury in her shoulder and doesn't want to make it worse.
I'm sure you can figure out where this is going...
The weights are single-piece, "O"-shaped neoprene, and are the perfect size for the handle of your shovelglove (assuming you have a wooden handle, anyway). I mean this literally, they seem almost designed to improve your shovelglove!
Slide them all the way down to the head and you can add 1-pound increments. Wrap the whole thing up tightly in your sweater, and instantly you have incremental weight with little cost.
I did this on mine and felt the weight immediately, but backed off and instead put them on hers. Instead of putting them on the handle though I put them on the head, one on each side (a perfect fit!), and zip-tied them together on each side really tight. They are squeezed in toward the middle, meeting over the handle. She now has a 6-pound shovelglove and likes it much better.
I finally found the weights (or similar, we can't remember the name of the ones we bought) online:
