My best advice is just to stick with it - if you can live with some imperfection and slow progress, you will find the habits creep up on you over time and will completely change your relationship with food. Good luck!

Re: ladybird's check in
Doing this is definitely more of an art than a science, isn't it? And learning to make adjustments along the way, as well as listening to what the body is telling us, is a big part of it.

Thank you, Ladybird! I will be having some celebratory bubbles today, though - our youngest son graduates from university! :D I guess I have slowly shifted from someone who had a couple of glasses of wine pretty much every evening, to enjoying it as a special treat for a special occasion. And I am h...

Hi Soprano! Yes, it really is easy to get carried away with alcohol! Abstaining from it has been a huge piece of the weight loss puzzle for me. It was really hard at first, but it has gotten easier over time. Aside from the addictive qualities, and the habit of it, also how drinking is such a big pa...

I modified No-S for myself a long time ago to include a discrete one plate healthy snack on N days, and it is generally an apple and a Brazil nut (one Brazil nut a day apparently helps with cholesterol). Like you, I would get way too hungry by dinner time and it would really trip me up. Having the a...

My process goal for July and August is to get lots and lots of green on my Habit Cal - I track No-S and No Wine. The last time I had months that were mainly all green was back in November and December. Hard to believe I did that during the holiday months but I did. It does help to look bac...

Oh, wow, you guys have a lot going on. Thank goodness your cholesterol and blood sugar were normal. I hope in the end both you and your husband get things sorted out - it is not fun to get hit with that stuff as we get older!!!
But nice that you are maintaining at a lower weight!

Nice! I love how you look back to figure out what was going on at certain points in your journey, and I agree that the body sometimes has to get used to a certain weight range before it will let you move further, this has been my experience as well.

Congratulations! Those insights about what motivates people to make real change are fascinating - maybe shame doesn't ultimately work because bingeing is one of the things that is used to numb those feelings?

Woo hoo to silver lining weight loss! It's funny how these health challenges, if we are lucky, can be an opportunity to clean up our diets for reasons other than weight loss, and then the weight loss is a nice side effect.

Oh, wow, I am sorry to hear you are dealing with acid reflux! It sounds like you are really looking at lifestyle factors to improve your symptoms, which is exactly what I did when I started having this a couple years ago (and yes - it was definitely during my perimenopause) - gave up coffee, became ...

Thank you, Oolala! Yes, it was most definitely a consistency challenge - the workouts are tailored to 50+ women and have lots of modifications if something is too hard. I had some company at the end of May that threw me out of my normal routine, and included some recreational eating, but am now back...

I just wrapped up the workout challenge and am back to "regular programming", which means some kind of exercise every day, whether it be yoga, walking, walk-run, a resistance workout, or swimming. I aim to get two resistance workouts in each week. On Ladybird's thread, she listed three things that h...

That shift in mindset from being overly concerned with losing weight to realizing that we need to focus on changing our dysfunctional habits is a journey that we have all had to make, I think. Like Ladybird said, how worthwhile to be able to coach someone through that shift! But it is probably very ...

Thanks for checking in, Lady and Kyl - my exercise is going really well, I am loving being back into the routine of doing either an online workout or a 45 minute walk every day. I have been a regular exerciser and gym-goer for years, so I have always done some form of regular exercise - I don't thin...

Thank you, Kyl. I don't feel the need for further restrictions on the food side of things, but I really wanted to get back into a good exercise routine, which the fitness challenge is helping me do. I just have to make sure I steer clear of the food guidelines that go with it...which is not always a...
