"Cake"
Thanks, all, for your opinions. Your input made me think. I bought four pieces of the "cake" today, and froze them. For now I feel no need or desire to eat them - it was just exciting to find sugar-free fruit-based goodies.
I'll keep an eye on how this develops, and learn from it either way.

A sweet by any other name?
In my local health food store today, I found some Banana Blueberry Bread made without any sugar or other sweeteners. Bananas and blueberries alone provided the sweet taste. It IS a cake-type thing, and tastes sweet, but only contains fresh fruit, some flour, oil, etc.

You are so right, CaroleJo. I do not want to live forever, of course; I just want to be healthy and pain-free as long as I live. But I have two family stories that are informative: One is my aunt, now in her mid-80's, who was ahead of her time when it came to proper nutrition. Always ate lots of fru...

Question re dried fruit
Last night, on a no-S day, my last meal of the day was raw cashews and dried apricots. For future reference, is this OK, or should dried fruit be considered a sweet? I did not overdo either the apricots or the nuts, and it was exactly what I wanted for my last meal.

Back from a day out of town
Yesterday, Sunday, I again had no appetite, so ate only one meal. Had soup and a main dish, then was still hungry(ish), but instead of ordering a dessert, ordered another bowl of soup. That filled me up and I felt better about it. So a weekend with not one sweet. Now today, of course, I feel like ha...

First S-day
What a disastrous S-day this was! My very first S-day . . . and I had no appetite! Finally ended up eating somethng at 10 pm, mostly because I thought I should, and of course the day isn't over yet, but it was amazing to me that knowing I COULD eat seemed to eradicate cravings, whereas when I'm on a...

Day 2
It's been perfect, according to definition. Struggled (and continue to struggle) with desire for sweets tonight, and truly only the knowledge that tomorrow I can actually have them is what kept me on track. Thank you for that stroke of genius, Reinhard. It's better that it's two days, too, not just ...

Judith's Daily Check-in
A perfect first day, and it was even easy! I won't call my meals Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, since I eat at erratic times; instead, they'll be 1, 2 and 3. 1. Amy's organic frozen pizza with whole wheat crust, roasted vegetables and no cheese. The whole thing fit on a plate so I ate it. 2. Small Sto...

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but . . .
. . . I'm intrigued by the Weekend Luddite idea. I spend vast amounts of time online, and tell myself it's OK, because after all, there's nothing else I HAVE to do. The bills are paid, I've been to the dentist and the bank - why shouldn't I spend my time online? Why is it any worse (or better) than ...

Rock and a hard place/Devil and the deep blue sea
(Options in the title are there to accommodate the various age groups.) The problem: IF I fill my plate, I'll eat all of it, even if I realize part-way through that I've had enough. On the other hand, IF I don't fill my plate, I may feel that I haven't had enough and risk being hungry soon after, we...

Thanks for the input, Azathoth. I have read up a bit on sleeping disorders, and they recommend exactly what you say, with the exception that they say to do it seven days a week. I have tried it, and it has helped, but then what happens is I have a night I can't sleep at the scheduled time or anywher...

General concensus on pizza
I didn't get to vote yet!
Are you saying that even though the whole thing (bear in mind, it's a SMALL pizza) fits on the plate, I can't have it?
Judith

I DID start today - started at midnight last night, that being the beginning of "today". Ate right up to 11:59, of course. One problem is that for me, today is still yesterday. I have not been to sleep yet, and am not even tired. Eventually I will sleep, but it makes handling my three meals confusin...

Some of the smaller frozen pizzas, like Amy's or Dr. Oetker, fit in their entirety on a plate. We're looking at 850 calories here, for one meal. I could easily put the whole thing away without blinking an eye (and more, too), but is this acceptable? Reminds me of the time I went to a buffet which wa...

Re bipolar - no, I'm not offended at all, just surprised that you zeroed in on it on such short acquaintance. Over the years, several people have told me they think I am bipolar, but I have never been diagnosed as such, so don't know what to make of it. There was a brief period of time when I took l...

The others seemed iffy about doing this, though I think that as this site grows, they will have to have many sub-groups, along the lines of those at www.radiantrecovery.com. BTW, Jan-Tz, I recognized your screen name as soon as I saw it. I'm an old McDougaller, too - in fact, I even went to his clin...

No argument from me! I have no doubt that dieting has contributed to my excess weight. All those last-night-before-a-diet binges alone have been good for about 100 pounds. I know diets don't work - or rather they all do, as Reinhold points out; it's just that you can't stay on them. My problem was t...

For the brave only - Welcome inside my head
Last night I discovered this site. My first post said how I couldn't wait to start. Sounds immediate, no? A subsequent email said I'd start November 1st. Now, there was a perfectly good reason for this delay. You see, November 1st is 11/1 - thus three ones, and of course, God is One. More significan...

S day question
As I understand it, snacks, sweets and seconds are allowed on S days. My question: Are we still supposed to have our regular three meals, or are we in anything-goes mode?

Thanks for the suggestion, Deb. I was particularly glad to hear from you because I've been reading past postings, and got really worried when you said you were taking a "holiday". You've done so well, and are a stalwart here. I understood better when you gave your massage analogy, though. I am tryin...

Eating out
How does "no seconds" work in, say, a Chinese restaurant, where you would have a couple of dishes brought to you on separate plates, and the rice in another bowl? Or three-course meals - say soup, a main course and a salad. And no doubt buffets are ill-advised! Is it no seconds of each individual fo...

Routine and meal times
My dilemma: I don't work, have no children and few responsibilities. No complaints about any of that, but it means that there is never any reason to do anything at a particular time. I never know when I'll go to sleep or when I'll wake up; I never know when I'll eat. Sometimes I'm upside-down, sleep...

Granny here
I've got all of you beat - I'm 63 and have been dieting since I'm 7. Despite having been on a diet for 56 years, I am still fat. I am VERY excited about this N-S plan, and think you write beautifully, Reinhard. You have gone right to the heart of the matter. I'm starting immediately, though I do hav...
