I was in the same boat a year ago when I started NOS. Lots of protein shakes and bars. I couldn't bring myself to throw them away because I'm too cheap. So I used each as a meal. This way I still met the 3 plate rule. Place 1 or 2 bars in a plate and that's a meal. Place a shake on a plate. That's a...

Is my 14 minutes 14 minutes?

My 14 min workout is a set of 10 pushups followed by a set 10 squats at the top of every minute during the 14 min. It takes me 1/2 a min. to complete the exercise set. Thus, in reality I'm working out seven minutes, 7 min. of exercise and 7 min. of rest. Does this count as my daily M-F strenght work...

S=Spirits

Hi! I decided to give an "S" to spirits (alcohol) and toss them in S island with Snacks, Sweets and Seconds. I have taken this step because: 1. I get sleepy after having 2 drinks with dinner and I have to do things. 2. At 200 calories per day, 5 days a week, I will save enough calories to lose 15 lb...

To milczar

Hi milczar! To answer your question, if you create a calorie deficit you will lose weight. :D In addition, if you are already skinny, you will maintain your weight with a calorie balance . :) It will not matter if you are eating sushi, white rice, pasta or French bread. The aforementioned book state...

Sweets and other carbs equal. Why sweets only on weekends?

Hi! The book Life Without Bread stated that whether you eat simple, complex, sweet or not sweet carbs, the body will metabolize them into glucose (a small portion as glycogen). Simple carbs will be absorbed faster thus inducing an insulin spike. What is the reason that we limit sweets to S days? Thn...

Nutrisystem portion control

Hi! A friend who is on Nutrisystem told me that they are taught to restrict their 3 meals' portion to the palm of their hand for protein, a fist of their hand for starch carbohydates and all vegetables they want. He added that you have to measure by your own hand, not somebody else's. This portion s...

Weight Loss

Hi!

Since December 27, 2006, I have lost 11 lb. The best part is that I have enjoyed the journey. I never had so much fun losing weight because, since I eat what I want, every meal has become a gastronomic adventure. I am only 31 lb from my ideal weight of 160.

Thanks!

14 Minutes = 7 Minutes?

Hi! In Podcast Episode 20 Reinhard stated: "when I'm on vacation, traveling, and I don't have access to my sledgehammer (airport security can be a real pain about sledgehammers), that's exactly what I do. Pushups, squats, jumping jacks, the wall of pain. Whatever I can think of from high school gym ...

Alcohol Question

Hi!

Am I supposed to have my 2 drinks with meals?

Could I have them by themselves, for example to wind up after work and have my meal after I finish them?

How about as a nightcap before I go to sleep?

Thanks!

Sweets

Hi! I know we are only supposed to have sweets on S days. But shouldn't we limit our sweets' volume on these days? I realize that the lack of sweets during N days should make you cloyed when you indulge on S days. But I'm concerned I might be eating too many calories by having a full plate plus swee...

Snacks

Hi! I started NOS on 12/27/06 and so far lost 6-7 lb. This is a system that I can maintain for life. I realize that my weight loss will slow down, but eventually I should get to my ideal weight. Question about snacks: The French do not eat snacks and are fairly trim and healthy compared to us. What ...

Why 14 minutes only on weekdays?

Questions mainly for Reinhard but all are welcome to respond.

Why only exercise on weekays?

What would happen if I went 14 m six or seven days a week? Won't that help cement my exercise habit?

What would happen if I went 28, 42 or 56m?

Thanks!
