I think one of the many reasons diets have failed for me in the past is the avoidance of so called fattening food. When I feel deprived I binge. Tomorrow I will order a pizza. And enjoy it on one plate. Believe it or not this is a break through for me. I either deny or I go ape wild.

Question about plate size

Just wondering if people are using a 9 inch or 11 inch plate.? I know it sounds silly, but I want to be strict for now.

my s days

I try to keep them sane. I find if I eat everything in sight, I feel bloated and gross. Sometimes I will have a second plate, but then I feel over full. I usually will have whatever dessert I want after dinner. Sometimes I'll have a snacky food like chips. But for the most part I still stick to the ...

It takes me an hour to walk three miles. On weekends I walk 3 miles in the morning (1 hour) and 3 miles in the evening (1 hour) for a total of two hours. I don't mind walking. Down 12 pounds in one month!

Granted I have a lot of weight to lose. And weight loss is always faster at the beginning when you have a lot to lose. As you get closer to goal weight it slows to a snails pace. But it is better than gaining 12 pounds! I have been walking 3 to 6 miles everyday.

Did anybody see the Discovery Health Channel Obesity Show?

On Discovery Health Channel last night (California) there was a one-hour program called "Big as Life: Obesity in America" or something very close to that. I had a problem with the program for several reasons. 1) For an hour they discussed the "obesity epidemic" and short of surgery or extreme calori...

suggestions that sometmes work for me

When I first started I thought it would be easy too. It is easy to follow in that you don't have to count or measure, but it is not easy to do. Let's face it. When you are trying to lose weight you have to cut calories, consume less, whatever you want to call it. This is an easy format for doing tha...

already walk

I am overweight, but walking is no problem because I have a hyper dog that really needs his walk. When I go to work I walk 3 miles a day. On weekends and holidays (when I have more time) I walk the 3 miles twice which is 6 miles. It is harder to do the 6 miles in the winter because it gets dark soon...

My meal times move around quite a bit. But I always stick to 3 per day. For example, when I am at work it is very set: Breakfast 7:00, Lunch 11:40, Dinner 5:00. But when on vacation this changes. Breakfast may be 7a.m. or 10:00 a.m. Dinner maybe 4:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. When on vacation there are so m...

You have to limit alcohol to one or two glasses because it has a lot of calories. Also, I have found that alcohol makes you feel more hungry. Juice can be dangerous because it has a lot of calories. I limit mine to 1/2 to 1 cup per meal. I mix with water so it is not so sweet.

some observations on childhood obesity from a teacher.

I work in a low socioeconomic area. I am a fourth grade teacher. When I was growing up I never had a weight problem. But I did not eat what these children eat. I would say out of the 650 students at this public school, 50% are overweight or obese. Almost 100% of my students eat breakfast and lunch i...

This way of eating is better for men than women. And you have to be careful how much you put on that one plate. Also, does not work as well if you are eating high fat meals for your three meals. so portion control is still an issue.
