Hi Kevin, Hmmmmm...five years on that McDougall Program and I heard a lot about how diabetics benefitted from the program, but never once did I hear that there are different kinds of insulin needs, and that it would not work for everyone. I really hate it when I get selective information, so I appre...

I have no personal knowledge of diabetes, but I remember that when I was doing that fat-free vegan diet (the McDougall Program), there seemed to be quite a few people who were able to quit the insulin therapy altogether after switching to that diet. I thought that was interesting. Weight loss follow...

Hi Ginjer,

Welcome to our happy group!

Your meals don't have to be low calorie, just have a reasonably sized portion on an ordinary size plate. Doesn't get much easier than that!

Your English is wonderful! Glad you're here, and hope you post often!

I have a baby sledghammer. The label said 4 pounds, but it actually weighs 6. Seems light to you, but I am a pretty small person, and also middle-aged. I shift my hands up and down depending on the movement to lighten or increase the load. Also, I switch hands to equal out the work on both arms.

I don't think "blunder" and "screw-up" equals a bowl of cereal. A quart of Ben & Jerry's at one a.m. maybe... If you have been doing this so well for so long, then a little cereal once in a blue moon just isn't that big of a deal. And, yes, carbs will put you to sleep (that's body chemistry at work)...

And it really was much easier on Monday and Tuesday of this week not to snack, having not snacked on the previous weekend. This sounds wonderful! I suppose instead of beef or TVP, you could use red beans, or any kind of beans. I don't think I can get whole wheat pancake mix around here, but I have my own dumpling recipe that I often use. I really love to put dumplings on top of simmering veggies, beans, and even fruit.
