Reinhard, Thanks a bunch. i have been working out with my 20pounder for a about a year, the new hammer feels sooooooo much heavier. It's only 7 pounds heavier, but it feels like a lot more. Oh well, it's all good.I told the guys at the station about it at shift change, nobody wanted to play with the...

A very cool Christmas
This year for Christmas my father gave me a handmade 20+ pound sledgehammer that is made entirely of steel. AWESOME. Oh yeah, and the ham is pretty cool also.
Merry Christmas everyone. Keep on swinging an enjoy your S days.

Possible new move?
The last couple of weeks I have included a move that I have taken from weight lifting, specifically training with dumbbells. That move is called the curl and press. Nothing new there. What I did to tweak it is that I hold the handled of the hammer a couple of inches away from the sledge head, and ma...

Since work has been very busy(I work as a firefigther in a college town) lately I have had to modidy my sledgehammer routine. On shift days, I will do push-ups and some other exercises inbetween calls. Usually averaging between 200-500 a day, just depending on how I feel. My two days off I walk and ...

working with tires?
I was just wondering if anyone includes hitting a tire in their shovelglove routine. Currently I do not, but I used to enjoy it every so often. It was not a mainstay, just something I would use to spice up a workout.

workout for yesterday: 500 push-ups done throughout the morning. Mow the lawn. Shovelglove with 20# for 20 mins. My normal SG routine is as follows: shoveling, stoke the oven, a funky arm exercise, tree chops, one arm tuck bales, driving fences, pike pole, exercise with no name. Some of the exercise...

Matt's routine
I would like to continue the dialy walks of 60-90 mins. At some point in the day I do my push-ups and ab wheel roll-outs. then later on I will do my sledgehammer workout with 10-15 mins of kb swings and clean n presses. I need to work in pull-ups somewhere. Oh well, some is better than none.

What I like about shovelglove so far.
For starters I like that nobody on this web site tries to act overly tough or like a badass. I really like that's mellow and noncompetitive. although a contest would be fun to watch. So far I like how it seems to make my job easier. After swinging a 20 # sledge for 14 mins., a 6# flathead axe is noth...

That is a cool routine. I love the kb swings and goblet squats. Huge bang for the buck. For my actual shovelglove routine I do lots and lots of well, shoveling, stoking the fire, driving the fence, axe chops of various types. I also keep a bend in the legs and the abs tight. After the 14 mins of sle...

I like to include other exercises. I know that what i am about to say is against the rule, but for my job, i need more than 14 mins of exercise. I like to include kb swings, i work with sand bags, and lots of bodyweight exercise. my reasoning is simple, if i go to a housefire, I will be workingfor a...

Crazy looks from drivers
It makes me laugh how many people drive by as I am walking and give funny/crazy looks. Evidently its ok to run, ride a bike, or walk a dog. BUT.................. do not walk down the street without a dog/by yourself.

Dang, I forgot to mention a couple of points............. When you walk in a new or different city, you get to see sooooo much more than you otherwise would have. typo on my part.......sorry. What I had meant to say is that when I go lighter in weight i will usually go longer. The heavier I go, the shorter the workout. Also, another thing that I do for work is to do step-ups onto a concrete block witht the 20# hammer switching hands every minute. Sometimes I ...

I dont think its too much to be impressed over. I have been very heavey into kettlebells for the last 7 years which gives me a pretty nice base to start from. I did start with the 16# hammer, that was all that I had. i trade off between my 20# hammer and my 30# mace. When I go heavier i like to try ...

That's awesome. Also, that happens to be the same reason that I walk so much. Nothing worse than having a fat dog. Can't have that.Kevin wrote:A dog you care about is the best exercise machine.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that I really enjoy this type of training. Although I have to be a bit honest and say that it does look a bit wierd, I think that it has a ton of awesome benifits. I love that after working out with a 20lb sledge at home, the 12# hammers at the fire station feel ...

hello everyone. This is my first post here. I have read the posts on this forum and the shovelglove forum for a couple of years now. Anyways, here is my first post. This past week I have averaged one hour of walking a day. I have wanted to go longer but believe it or not my old dog likes to call it ...
