Oatmeal makes me ravenous by 10AM, even a goodly portion of steel cut oatmeal with nuts and dried fruit. Instead, I have a small serving of full fat yogurt with a piece of fruit and a little cereal or whole grain toast with peanut butter. I have no idea why this happens and the research I've read i...

I don't think it is an odd question. I've often wondered where fruit fits in on the No S diet. In the UK we never put fruit on our plates as part of our main meal- that just seems bizzare. We may have it at breakfast otherwise it is seen as a dessert or a snack. I decided to continue eating fresh fr...

Fake food is what makes people fat. What people should be eating is things like long rise sour dough bread, REAL butter, and plenty of it, whole milk, and eggs from healthy, free range chicken, and grass fed meat I eat all those things, always have done. I cook everything from scratch with real ing...

Thank you Wosnes! I do find "good enough" very very difficult... And re. the wartime diet - I even have the "ration book diet" book, picked up in the Imperial War Museum! But I find it frustrating, since they have "modernised" the recipes...so not as realistic as it could be. My Gran cooked like it...

On a related note, I just Googled "five a day" because I couldn't remember the source of the initiative, and was informed by Google that five a day = 5.78703704 × 10-5 hertz, so that's the frequency at which you have to eat vegetables. Take note!  I've been doing it wrong then! Of cou...

Health and well-being in the UK has never been higher than at the end of World War Two, when no-one had any notion of micronutrient control, pro-post-hypervitamin Q9 or the harmonising effects of Guatemalan hippyberries on the immune system. They just ate less. . Actually there was a little more to...

I knew it! Schools here in the UK insist kids have a water bottle nearby at all times. Keeping hydrated is supposed to improve academic performance. Funny though, I got through all my schooling including my degree without ever having a bottle of water nearby. How did I manage, and how did all my cla...

His other observation is that food in general is rediculously expensive in the UK compared to Germany (which isn't considered that cheap either!). ! That's interesting Bonnie because I think I'm right in saying that the German family's expenditure was the highest in the book, although a huge amount...

I've had this book for a while and find it absolutely fascinating. However, I think one should be wary of taking these examples as typical of each country's food. I'm from the UK and shop at the same supermarket as the British family featured in the book and my weekly food looks nothing like theirs....

First of all congratulations Strawberryroan and well done! I'm new here and this is just the sort of thing I need to read. I have a question for you, I see on the Daily Check In that you were using CalorieCount. I have been using it for the last 3-4 weeks. I had some initial success but then got laz...
