Deb, Sorry if this comes across as "annoying pedant" but, I think that might be an accurate reflection of my character. The phrase "the proof is in the pudding" is a corruption of the phrase "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". It's one of my pet peeves, especially given that the eating of t...

I usually don't worry, and just eat many biscuits (cookies to USians) and drink plenty afterwards. I was just curious what other people think. I had given blood a couple of times and then I got 2nd hand confirmation that it's important when my grandmother was given 4 units over christmas a couple of...

Hi, I'm also pretty new to No S, but I think I can answer your questions: 1) Reinhard specifically OKs coffee and tea, and you shouldn't be TOO worried about adding a teaspoon of sugar to your coffee. Sugary soda is obviously not good and diet soda does nasty things to your body (doesn't stop me). T...

21 days on habit! My N days have been very good, but this weekend I did crash a bit. What I've taken away is that I don't feel too good when I eat that much (just lots of all sorts of nice things) and I need to be more choosy about my Special foods. So no loss this week but about 5lb down over the 2...

Hah, this is just the thread I needed. Last night, on the way home from work my front tyre (on my motorcycle) started to lose air. I was only halfway home and in the middle of nowhere (for the UK) so I foolhardily pressed on. I managed to limp into a petrol station with a totally flat front tyre, wi...

Giving blood and S days
This is only my 3rd week of No S (21 days on Sunday, see ) and I haven't used any Special days yet but I find myself pondering a kind of N+S day on monday. I am planning to give blood on monday, and the time is kind of awkward. I won't have time to eat my evening meal before I do it, but by the time...

You're in just the right place :-) See Reinhard's other major baby, linked from the top of this very page. The No S Diet. I am beginning my 3rd week of No S and ShovelGlove and it feels great. I've managed to get my habitual snacking on crap under control. The No S Diet also has a forum linked from ...

Good luck for the upcoming week
It's Sunday evening here in the UK and my S days are coming to an end so I just wanted to wish everybody a successful week. It's so nice to have a friendly community who are going through the same thing as me. I don't really mean good luck, but SUCCESS to you all :-) At the end of this week, it will...

Start week on...
Reinhard, I know this is a pretty trifling request, but could it be possible to add an option to start the week on a Monday when viewing/editing the calendar? It's probably just me, but I would really like to be able to see all my green squares lined up with the amber ones neatly on the right-hand s...

Winnie, I know how you feel about the scale, as I have occasionally been guilty of that and my whole family-in-law have a weight problem (as do I, I hasten to add) and my sister-in-law in particular can weigh herself multiple times a day! However, my experience has been as Reinhard and others have s...

Well done Richard! I am at the end of my 2nd week on habit (and looking forward to my S days and a few indulgences). When I was a couple of years older than yourself I set myself up with some weights at home and kept it up for about a year. The muscle I built back then has stayed with me since then,...

I don't really make this a rule, but I try to use a smaller plate than normal now that I'm doing NoS because our normal dinner plates are pretty huge and I know full well that when heaped up it's way more food than I need. I actually use an old kind of blue and white chinoiserie plate from a pair th...

I certainly don't expect that level of loss in future, but I know from my (and others) previous experience that the first week or two of a diet change causes higher loss and it generally then evens out. I'll be happy with a pound or so every week or two. The great thing is that the initial loss has ...

Now the wife wants to join in :-)
After a little ridicule, my wife has decided she wants to join in. My 10lb hammer is way too heavy for her, but I think I have a lump hammer that probably weighs 2 or 3 lbs but only has a short handle. Has anybody ever lengthened a handle in some way? Perhaps a length of pipe or something?

1 week down, 2.1kg (4.5lb) down
Hi All, I'm new here, so I thought I'd introduce myself and let you know my initial progress. I read about Shovel Glove on a blog I read ( http://artofmanliness.com/ ) and that led me to the No S Diet. I decided that it sounded like something I could do, so I JFDI and stopped the S's last Monday (I ...
