I will be baking--it's a special activity for the kids and me, plus I need to do a lot for school (DS2 has food allergies, so I'm the designated cookie baker). I think this may work best for people who do not have children at home. My kids are skinny as rails and, thankfully, very skilledl at regula...

Very insightful post. I hope your new outlook will help with the weekends. They're a big problem for me, too. Sat. a.m. started out OK, but by Sun. I was just eating everything in sight. Most unfortunately, that slipped into Monday, my first red day since starting about 10 days ago. I know my trigge...

Oh, my. Doesn't that capture it. The obsession with all the planning and the details. Going back to the book "Willpower"...the more details a diet requires, the more of your willpower it will sap. Especially if you need to remember those details throughout the day (how many calories have I eaten so...

I picked this up from another diet--try protein powder mixed with water instead of milk in cereal. Just make sure the powder is not sugar-filled. There's an easy 20 g of protein right there. You could also mix a scoop in with your milk. The diet I'm referring to required you to eat every 3 hours, an...

Coming in late here, but I had to reply because this post made me shudder with recognition... That new-diet high is such a dangerous feeling. My freezer is filled with crazy foods that I just HAD to have for the <insert name here> diet, but which are so unpalatable they've sat there for months. Oh, ...

Coming back to No S
Reintroducing myself here...I first started No S a few years ago because I loved the simplicity of the system. My emotional eating eventually got the best of me, and I fell off the wagon. The past three years, I've tried everything from WW to Atkins to Dukan. Only the last worked, and not for long (...

My dieting had become very "overscienced" in the past couple years. Every time I ate, I was conscious of glycemic load and/or carb grams and/or my metabolism in middle age... It has been so freeing to just eat a banana and be done with it! It's important to know basic facts about healthy eating, but...

Pretty wild, thanks to parties and Halloween plus weekend. I'm not too concerned, though we have our anniversary and my son's birthday this week as well. I'm making those S events rather than S days. The good news is that I managed to rack up almost 14K steps yesterday! I made sure to walk in the a....

Your tips for the holidays, please!
I'm sure this info is buried somewhere in the forum, but I couldn't find a specific topic when I searched. Reinhard has a very helpful chapter on staying on plan during the holiday season (which, thanks to my kids, starts this weekend in my house). I'd love to hear others' tips as well. I'm wavering...

Heading into another weekend...I really don't want this to be too wild, if only because last weekend ended with a bad case of heartburn--hadn't had that since I was pregnant! But I noticed this week that I've been able to walk by ice cream and bakery items, etc., in the grocery store without it even...

If I saw 119 on the scale, it WOULD be a shock! :) Actually, that's a very good weight for me, although after three kids I'll take the low 120's and be more than happy. I've been following you, Shannon, because your profile is similar to mine--I'm a little taller than you but very small-boned and am...

Not a great S-day. It's just before TOM, so I'm not shocked--I'm just surprised I made it through a perfect week of N-days. I've both snacked and eaten sweets on and off all day and didn't exercise like I hoped to. DH and my older son are away for the weekend, so it has not exactly been a relaxing S...

One thing that has helped me is deciding that snacks are just not an option, for any reason. It doesn't matter how stressed I am, who else is eating, or even whether I'm hungry--no snacks on non-S days. If I'm hungry, which I often am before dinner, I'll have tomato juice, water, or tea. After dinne...

I'm in. I'm on my second go-round (did No-S about 2 years ago) and I'm so burned out on diets that I don't want to add any more rules to this very simple system. Per my post today, though, I had a rather depressing S weekend, so I might somewhat modify that after a while....we'll see how next weeken...

When do S days get less wild?
After four perfect N days to start, I was hoping for a successful first S weekend. This is my second go-round with No-S, and S days were my downfall the last time, so I thought maybe I'd already learned how repeated excess can derail weight loss, to the point where I become to discouraged to continu...

I agree completely. I'm on Day 2, and I'm amazed at how wonderful it feels to NOT think about food. I've had some slight hunger pangs in between meals, but I have a cup of tea and go on with my day. Formerly, I'd be doing all sorts of calculations as to what kind of snack could I have, what quantity...

Second time around
Hello all... I tried No-S about 2.5 years ago and did great...until the S days. I know we should expect some "S days gone wild" at first, but I found that a) I'd make myself sick every weekend without fail and b) I had a hard time recovering come Monday. So I dropped No-S and went back to my usual c...

I don't know all the science behind carbs, but I do know how my body reacts. I tried a low-glycemic diet for a week or so awhile back, and then I inadvertently limited carbs my first two weeks on No-S (because I added more protein to carry me over to the next meal). Both times I felt more energetic ...

Fell, or rather, slipped off the wagon the past week. A small snack here, an excuse for an S day there, and sure enough, I stopped thinking about No-S at all and my weight is back where I started... I tried the SlimFast diet twice in the past six months. I found that a) one can didn't hold me until the next meal and b) my sugar cravings went through the roof. YMMV. The main reason I tried SlimFast was similar to yours: I have three very young kids and NO time to prepare special diet meals for m...

So what is the difference between an NWS day and a failure? I went to my cousin's graduation party last night and ended up having a piece of cheese before my meal and one piece of cake. Blueskighs, That was VERY helpful. And the timing couldn't have been better, as we're about to head into the weekend. What especially resonated with me was choosing very special treats. FAILURE Not a terrible one...my cousin's graduation party was tonight, and by the time I got the kids fed and secured the FA one in his stroller with his special food, it was late. Ugh. I can see how S-days can be the downfall of this diet. I've gone crazy the last 36 hours--pretty much continual sweets yesterday (birthday) and then the birthday leftovers today. SUCCESS. Felt like I was getting really cranky at the kids an hour or so before lunchtime, so I had a glass of milk, which helped tremendously. SUCCESS on Day 2! The gap between lunch and dinner is a killer for me--I'm at home with the kids, and that's my "reward" time and time to nibble when I'm making dinner. Made it, though. Today is Day 1 and is an S-Day, so it should be a SUCCESS no matter what, right? I did find myself having seconds on oatmeal, which I normally would not have done... Will weigh in tomorrow morning.
