It seems that "normal" eating is becoming a minority position, as many I talk to report their eating is all over the board, depending on their schedule, kids' schedules, social events, bad weather, many other variables that seem to be making "3 squares" an anachronism. Still, the value of being on a...

That meal schedule really sounds great to me. I like to exercise as soon as I get up in the early a.m., so am not hungry afterwards. A 9:30-10 a.m. breakfast would be perfect. I'm just used to thinking of food at this time as a "mid-morning snack", thus not good!! My main barrier to adopting such a ...

Going good here, no weight loss yet -- but a definite shift in habit. I've stopped the Success/Failure check-in, realizing I'm not the kind who benefits from this. It just made me overly exhilerated by success, and overly depressed about failure, and too much focused on both. The simplicity of No-s,...

Very wise words, Freakwich. What brought me to NOS was a strong desire to rid myself of the "dieting mentality", and all its time-wasting little dramas and struggles. So today, I'll note that NOS went great, no funny stuff -- even managed to have no snacks during tonight's Vikings/Packers game on Mo...

It's funny how different times of the day/night are harder for certain individuals -- I can't imagine EVER wanting to eat ANYTHING at 2:15 a.m.; really, you'd have to force-feed me. But, oh boy, catch me between 3-6 p.m., and it's a whole different story. That's when I'm opening the fridge, and prow...

Fri., Sat., Sun. -- S-Days Thanks for the encouragement CJ and Karl! I think Tice earned his pay today in NY after getting tackled on the sidelines! Yikes -- he may not be urban rangering any time soon! Finally, a Vikings game that we didn't have to switch off in disgust after the first quarter!! Inge

Thank you for the encouragement, Navin and CJ. I do tend to think if something is difficult, that somehow it's not "right", that I'm trying to force a square peg into a round hole. In this case, though, I know that No-S is addressing the correct issues, and it's worth the struggle to force my habits...

Hi and welcome! PMS is a killer, but I think long-time good habits can overcome even that. (Just a theory -- I'm still not there yet.) The only thing Reinhard's written that hasn't worked for me is the idea of putting any amount of thought into "choosing something really special" for S Days. That stirs up a lot of "special enough?" I have the same problem, and have (unfortunately) no solution to offer, except to say that having preschoolers at home is an exceptional situation that you may have to just grit your teeth and get through. As a new NOS'er, I ran into this problem immediately; it helped to read the "what do you mean by seconds?" section on the website. The fun is back in eating!
My last non-diet was Conscious Eating -- eat only when hungry, stop at the first sign of satiety, no reading, slow chewing, no distractions, etc. It worked, but eating also became work. The no-reading part was the worst, as breakfast and newspaper are inseparable to me. Now I can read again while ea...

Great idea, this! Don't like the idea of "food journaling" normally, but this seems different. Tried NOS last year, but wasn't ready for its stark simplicity. My mind wanted more drama. Now I'm ready.
Day 1 SUCCESS
A little hungry tonight, but nothing that can't be let go.
