I think that you should sell t-shirts with your quotes.

The everyday systems "manifesto" has some great quotes and I would love to see them on t-shirts. Two quotes in particular that stand out to me are "Maintenance is harder than progress" and "Stay on the plateau." Have you considered selling shirts? I think that you could develop a following with the ...

Epoxy for safety

I recently upgraded to a 16. (Still use the others, but I'm mixing the 16 in a couple times a week) Anyway, I got the 16 for a really good price because the guy at the hardware said that it had "been there for ages" and "people don't need more than a 12 unless they're working on a farm or building a...

If you want something scenario based, you can find a strong chair and do step-ups; All the while you can pretend to be climbing the mountain to reach the villagers who are stuck in the rock slide. Just make sure that the chair is strong and that you pay attention to where you are stepping.

A few months ago, I was taking some ribbing from a friend when I described shovelglove. My friend belongs to a chain gym and she got this incredulous tone of voice and raised her eyebrow. “So you’re PRETENDING to work.†Having read about the naysayers and those who doubt on this post I had prep...

It seems like there IS a source for lighter hammers with long handles after all Not sure what the shipping cost is, but the 4 pounder lists at $22.95 right now. http://www.atomicathletic.com/store/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SH468 The 2 and 3 pounders are not hardened metal. On the other side of the ...

No. I’m not a crossfitter, but I do check out the site and have borrowed some ideas. After I saw the movie “300†and found out that the training regimen was basically rebranded crossfit, I was really tempted to go find a crossfit gym. I realized, however, that 6 days a week of super-intense tra...

Yeah. Ross is the guy who got me hitting the tire. What an athlete! I've got a semi tire on the rooftop. I use the 8 and 10 over the shoulder and switch sides. I do Tabata intervals with them a couple times a week. It's great for getting the heart rate up and the cool thing is that I feel like I hav...

I think that the long length is crucial because it allows for proper (work-like) positioning of the hands for certain moves.

Hammers and Objects under 6 pounds

A year ago I showed my mom this site and she loved it. I showed her my eight pounder, but she thought it was too heavy. She has had some back pain and a knee surgery and wanted to be particularly careful. I bought a skinny plastic wiffle ball bat and filled it with sand. Then I used epoxy to seal th...

miss one day . . . no big deal

The key thing is the ability to “recover†when we get off the habit for a day or two. I missed last Thursday, but I got back at it on Friday. In the long term that missed Thursday will mean make no difference to my overall fitness and I choose to not let that missed day weigh at all on my psyche....

Finding the right size hammer . . . the great thing about shovelglove is its low cost. I presently have two hammers; an 8 and a 12. I still use the 8 a lot and do a few exercises with the 12. A person could purchase an 8, 10, 12, and a 16 from the hammer store and it would only cost $120! That’s les...

Good tips, fungus. I will try that when I'm feeling 100%. . . . I guess my evidence can't be that official if I don't have the correct spelling of anecdotal. :)

Shovelglove works the abs! Official Annecdotal Evidence!

I strained an abdominal muscle trying a trick with my dance partner. It's a really mild strain, but I can feel it. I took Monday off, but I decided to shug today. (What can I say? I'm addicted to my 14 minutes!) I tried everything out with my walking stick first and I used the eight pound hammer aft...

lurker turned poster - great exercise!

Awesome stuff here. I have been shugging for about 6 weeks now and I love it. My shoulders feel great and my muscles are a lot firmer. I do a few reps with a walking stick to warm up, do most of the routine with an 8 lb., and do some moves with a 12 lb. I’ve owned the 12 lb. for about three weeks an...
