- Topic: How do I cut portions?

I've been using a system inspired by blueskighs, which I call "virtual blog". I assemble my plate/meal and then I consider whether if I posted a picture on my blog would my readers (and myself) consider it a reasonable portion? Or would I be embarrassed? (Of course it might be even more effective if...

Re: Hello, I'm new!
Geographical and nationality footnote: I'm a Brit - actually I'm Welsh, though I live in south-west London in the UK. Snap! I'm from Cardiff and I live near Wimbledon. Where did you get your sledge? I have been SGing for nearly two months, and started with a 7lb sledge which I have now added two 1l...

I don't think it's a good idea to be too strict with kids, as they do need energy in varying amounts, depending on whether they are growing, have just been ill, etc. I think little kids are better at just deciding when they are full, too. I hope that I will set them an example of not snacking, and m...

Stress eating is a problem. I know when I am really stressed I find myself opening the fridge even without noticing. Rather than skip breakfast altogether could you have the cereal a bit later? I have been walking my daughter to school the last 2 weeks (hour round trip) and usually have breakfast wh...

I think KCC is right and it is the amount of effort required to keep track of the rules that makes a complication untenable. So for example a system where you changed the number of rules you stuck to depending on how much weight you lost requires conscious thought every day, rather than becoming hab...

I got here from Mark Forster's blog about organisation! So quite, quite different from many other people! But I've stuck with it for 37 days now, and am feeling much more in control. I've also lost over half a stone (1 stone = 14lbs) and I'm really pleased with that. It shows how much extra r...

It's natural to crave forbidden fruit. If I am craving I try and think "Wow, I really crave chocolate/cheese/a glass of wine! This is an unpleasant feeling. The cure for this feeling is NOT to have chocolate/cheese/a glass of wine. Then next time, the craving will be less, and eventually it will die...

For me it was really important to eliminate (or cut right down) cheating before concentrating on eating healthy meals. My temptation was snacks. If you are still regularly failing on no snacks, the tempation after a smaller/healthier meal is to compensate by having a snack later "because I've been g...

At Christmas there was no habit-cal, but in my head I considered that I had taken more S-days than I had intended (two weeks altogether), so I think I would have marked it yellow. This time 6 weekdays fell on holiday, I planned that three would be S and of the three remaining two were green and I ma...

I think at first you just have to concentrate on getting the normal routine in place and then eventually vacations will take care of themselves. I started No S in November and Christmas set me back quite a bit. However we just went on holiday for a week to a hotel where the food is *good*. We did th...

I like the solid colour too. I have had one failure each for the two habits I am tracking this month. Every time I update it, those two red squares annoy me and I think about how next month I am going to have all green and yellow. I have found myself craving something, and then thinking no, I don't ...

After following NoS for nearly five months now, I am coming to really believe that the first goal is just to stick to the system. You really have to get the habit down first without obsessing about weight. Then if you find you are not losing as much or as fast as you want, you can start tweaking you...

Re: New and struggling
This was the hardest time for me when I was starting. Now it is much easier and I can go from 12.30 til 8.30 or even 9 without that horrible shaky feeling. To start with I made bigger lunches - for example I would make an extra sandwich, and make sure it included protein. Now they are back to normal...

Hi Hexagon Sorry you are feeling discouraged, and I felt I had to come out of lurkdom to reply. I am just the same as you - 5'2'' and would like to lose 20lbs. I'm a bit older (36) and have been battling up and down the same 5/10 lbs for nearly 20 years! I hit an all time peak last November (not cou...
